Maiden Voyage expedition guide
Bellwright Halmare Isles Preparation Guide
Prepare for the Halmare Isles by leaving a stable Karvenia settlement behind, choosing a supplied and replaceable companion group, clearing urgent home-production problems, and preserving decision space for the island's faction-driven story.
Short answer: do not depart because the expedition is merely available. Leave when food, tools, storage, worker backups, equipment, and return reserves can function without constant rescue.
What the Halmare Isles add
Donkey Crew describes the Halmare Isles as a separate expedition map with new quests, caves, points of interest, creatures, resources, larger towns, and competing factions. The official launch notes emphasize that choices between those factions matter.
This makes the trip both a combat expedition and a narrative commitment. Prepare for exploration rather than treating it as one short resource run.
Stabilize Karvenia before leaving
Run the home settlement for several ordinary days without manual correction. Verify:
- food stock remains positive;
- tools have replacement supply;
- critical production has a primary worker and backup;
- storage outputs can unload;
- construction is not consuming every reserve;
- outposts and caravans complete without intervention;
- no urgent village-defense problem is already developing.
Fix the first unstable system before departing. The storage and production guide provides the full handoff check.
Choose the expedition group
Build a group that can travel, fight, recover, and carry supplies without removing every essential specialist from home.
For each companion, inspect:
- equipment condition and replaceability;
- food and medicine preparation;
- combat role within the group;
- effect on their usual settlement job;
- whether a backup covers that work;
- the cost of losing or sidelining them.
The Summer Update improved long-distance squad cohesion and food/medicine gear presets. Use those systems, but confirm the current platform interface before relying on them.
Pack by function
Avoid a patch-sensitive universal packing list. Build categories from the current mission and Codex information:
| Category | Planning question |
|---|---|
| Food | Can the group operate between reliable resupply points? |
| Medicine | Can it recover after more than one serious encounter? |
| Weapons and armor | Can damaged or unsuitable equipment be replaced? |
| Tools | Which exploration or gathering tasks are expected? |
| Carry capacity | Is there room for quest items and new resources? |
| Home reserve | What must remain in Karvenia for workers and defense? |
Do not fill every slot before learning what the island provides. Preserve capacity for new resources and rewards.
Prepare for faction choices
Official launch material states that multiple factions compete for the Bellwright's services and that choices matter. To avoid accidental commitment:
- read dialogue and quest objectives before turning them in;
- distinguish temporary cooperation from permanent alignment;
- keep a manual note of unresolved faction consequences;
- do not use an old spoiler guide as the sole source for current outcomes;
- preserve a save according to the game's current restrictions and your preferred play style.
This guide intentionally does not publish a supposedly perfect faction answer. The right choice depends on the outcome you want from the story.
Manage the two-map transition
Current official patches continue to address travel, ports, companion groups, rewards, and navigation between Karvenia and the Halmare Isles. Before a major transition:
- update to the current stable build;
- review recent official patch notes for active issues;
- complete critical inventory and settlement management first;
- ensure the traveling group matches the intended transition;
- verify important rewards and faction status after returning.
If something behaves unexpectedly, compare it with the newest official fixes before reorganizing the entire settlement.
Explore without overextending
Treat the first visit as reconnaissance:
- identify safe routes and major settlements;
- learn where resupply is possible;
- mark faction and quest hubs;
- test the group against local threats;
- preserve carry space for new materials;
- return before the expedition becomes dependent on emergency supplies.
Later trips can target specific caves, resources, quests, or faction progress.
Keep the home economy useful
The Halmare Isles do not make Karvenia irrelevant. The home settlement remains the base that equips future trips and supports wider rebellion progress.
Before expanding island activity, confirm that:
- caravans still protect keep limits;
- specialists left at home can maintain equipment chains;
- food and medicine production can replace expedition use;
- village Prosperity and regional threats are not being ignored;
- the return cargo has valid storage.
Common preparation mistakes
Taking every best worker
The strongest combat group can still leave the settlement unable to feed or equip the next expedition.
Filling all inventory space
New resources, equipment, and quest items need room.
Leaving during a production crisis
An unresolved tool, food, or storage failure will grow while the player is focused elsewhere.
Following a faction guide without context
The island is designed around meaningful choices. Decide which outcome matters rather than optimizing blindly.
Ignoring current patch notes
Halmare navigation, travel, rewards, and faction behavior have received continuing fixes.
Final departure checklist
- Can Karvenia operate without the player and expedition group?
- Are companion roles and replacement workers clear?
- Are food, medicine, equipment, and tools prepared?
- Is inventory space reserved for discoveries?
- Are urgent threats and caravan failures resolved?
- Are you ready to read and own faction decisions?
- Have you reviewed the newest official update notes?
