Bellwright Caravan Routes and Logistics Guide

Set up reliable Bellwright caravan routes for outpost supplies, resource collection, village trade, cart capacity, and route troubleshooting.

Bellwright caravans move goods through rules you define at the Small Caravan Station. The most reliable route has one clear purpose, a limited list of goods, protected local reserves, valid storage at both ends, and enough cart capacity for the return trip.

Short answer: begin with one outpost and one resource. Send food and tools out, bring the primary output back, then watch several complete trips before adding trade or extra stops.

How Bellwright caravans work

The Maiden Voyage update introduced the Small Caravan Station, carts, and the Caravaneer job. Official notes describe villagers loading carts to deliver and retrieve resources from outposts or buy and sell with friendly villages according to player-defined rules.

This is a physical logistics system. Route distance, cart availability, worker assignment, storage, and threats all affect whether goods arrive.

Prepare both ends before creating a route

At the origin, confirm:

  • the Small Caravan Station is operational;
  • an eligible worker can perform the Caravaneer job;
  • carts are available;
  • outbound goods are in allowed storage;
  • returning goods have a destination.

At the outpost or destination, confirm:

  • local storage accepts delivered supplies;
  • exported resources are available for collection;
  • keep or minimum rules protect food and tools;
  • the outpost workforce can unload and continue working;
  • the route is not crossing a threat you are ignoring.

Start with a two-way supply route

The cleanest first route does two things:

  1. Outbound: deliver the minimum food and replacement tools needed by the outpost.
  2. Inbound: collect the one resource the outpost exists to produce.

Do not add every possible good on the first setup. A narrow route makes wrong rules, missing storage, and capacity problems visible.

Write rules by outcome

For each item, decide whether the route should:

  • maintain a local minimum;
  • deliver a fixed operational supply;
  • collect excess above the local reserve;
  • unload everything at the destination;
  • buy or sell within a controlled trading plan.

Use the exact rule labels shown in the current build. Interfaces can change during Early Access, but the principle remains: protect what the settlement needs before exporting the surplus.

Capacity and frequency

A route can be configured correctly and still underperform if the carts cannot move enough volume. Measure delivered value per completed trip rather than assuming one cart is sufficient.

If the outpost fills between visits:

  1. verify the caravan is actually collecting the intended output;
  2. remove low-value cargo competing for space;
  3. reduce unnecessary outbound quantities;
  4. add cart capacity only after the rules are clean;
  5. consider whether the route is too long for the required frequency.

Do not publish or rely on one fixed item-capacity number without checking the current game, because item size and balance can change.

Use the map to inspect the route

Current official updates include caravan-path visibility on the map and fixes for long-distance pathfinding. Use the displayed path to look for:

  • unnecessary detours;
  • dangerous regions or recurring hostile contact;
  • blocked or awkward road connections;
  • a destination assigned to the wrong settlement;
  • travel distance that makes the route uneconomical.

Player-built roads and connections can improve the wider transport network. Build roads to solve a repeated route problem, not simply to decorate the map.

Why a caravan is not moving

Check in this order:

  1. Is the route enabled under the current interface?
  2. Is a Caravaneer available rather than occupied elsewhere?
  3. Is a cart assigned and usable?
  4. Do the load rules request goods that actually exist?
  5. Can the origin storage release those goods?
  6. Can the destination accept them?
  7. Is a keep or minimum rule preventing collection?
  8. Is the physical path reachable?

Change one rule at a time and wait for a complete attempted trip.

Why the caravan arrives empty

The usual causes are:

  • the requested resource was never stored at the stop;
  • the load rule is attached to the wrong stop or direction;
  • the outpost retained the goods under a minimum rule;
  • cart capacity was consumed by lower-priority cargo;
  • the output storage is not accessible or allowed;
  • production stopped before the caravan arrived.

Inspect the outpost management guide if the route is healthy but the remote site is not producing.

Trading with friendly villages

Caravans can also buy and sell through friendly villages. Treat trade as a separate route objective where possible. Define:

  • the good you are willing to sell;
  • the reserve the main settlement must keep;
  • the item you are buying to solve a real shortage;
  • the acceptable inventory and price behavior shown in the current interface;
  • the route's effect on cart space and essential outpost supply.

Official Maiden Voyage notes connect village trade with prosperity, so commercial routes can support wider regional progression. Keep settlement survival stock protected before pursuing profit.

A reliable route audit

  • Does the route have one primary purpose?
  • Are food and tools protected at the outpost?
  • Is the return resource available in allowed storage?
  • Can both destinations unload their cargo?
  • Is cart capacity spent on the highest-value goods?
  • Does the map show a practical path?
  • Is the Caravaneer free to run it?
  • Has the route completed several times without manual intervention?

Only add another stop or commodity after all eight answers are yes.
